What Can I Expect?

The Gatlinburg Christmas parade is an annual event that draws in more than 60,000 spectators each year. Everyone lines the Gatlinburg Parkway, ready to catch a glimpse of the vibrant, one-of-a-kind floats, LED displays, marching bands, dancers, holiday characters and more. There are even large balloon characters that the kids are sure to love! Each year, the parade has a different grand marshal. Grand marshals chosen in the past have been Myron Mixon and and Alyvia Alyn Lind, who played a young Dolly Parton in “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors.”

Where and When is the Gatlinburg Christmas Parade?

The Gatlinburg Christmas Parade starts at Baskins Creek Bypass in downtown Gatlinburg. The lineup enters the main Parkway at Light #3 and ends at Traffic Light #10. The entire parade lasts about 1 hour. The parade typically happens the first Friday in December each year and starts at 7:30 p.m., but you’ll want to get there early to guarantee you get a good spot.

Does the Parade Cost Money to Attend?

No, the Gatlinburg Christmas Parade is free to watch! However, you may have to pay to park in downtown Gatlinburg. The parade is great because you won’t break the bank attending, so you can spend your money on things like a yummy dinner or a little bit of shopping beforehand.

Where Do I Park for the Parade?

If you arrive early enough for the Christmas parade, you might be able to find a parking spot in a free space along River Road. If there aren’t any spots left, don’t worry! There are a handful of lots along River Road that charge a small fee and two city-operated parking garages in downtown Gatlinburg. One of the parking garages is at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, and another is near Traffic Light #3.
